Happy Birthday Sister

Happy Birthday Sabrina!

Behind the Times

I was thinking the other day if I had ever written an introduction post and I went threw my archive and did see anything! If I skipped over well then this will be a better post for myself!

My name is Karen Satterfield and I live in the geographic center of Tennessee. Which is also known as Murfreesboro. Little history lesson, it was the capital for 16 days before they realized Nashville would be an ideal place, hence the rivers. I'm 22 but soon to be 23 on June 9th. I have a dog named Darla and a cat named Picasso. My favorite painter's are Dali, Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh and my favorite photographer's are Ansel Adams, Dorthea Lange, and the many from iN-PUBLiC. I'm more of a photographer then a painter but both are my great escapes from the world. I love how there is so much creativity around us and how it's a great resource for ideas.

I'm currently slowly making my way threw school, I feel like the tortoise of the Tortoise and the Hare when I hear the word college. I'm wanting to major in Photojournalism and work for some kind of newspaper. I have hopes to work at the local one, The Daily News Journal or maybe another kind of small town paper. Besides wanting to be a photojournalist I have dreams of opening up my on diner and creating my oh so amazing burgers and maybe even have my sister join in. Only a dream but still a tasty one.

I have a sweetawesomelovinghandsomeamazingkindhearted-boyfriend who I love so much. We have been together for 2 1/2 years and loving every minute of it. Our story of togetherness is an interesting on and when I tell people how we meet, well it's quite funny. We first meet in high school but didn't know each other till a few years ago. I love my Nathan.

As for fashion? I dress to my mood, how I feel that day, and what I really want to wear. Ever since I can remember I have been obsessed with the 20s through the 60s. They were just glamorous times in my opinion. However, my favorites are the 40s and 50s. With that my dream car's are a 1957 Bel Air, 1948 Buick Roadmaster, 1958 Plymouth Fury, and yeah a few others. I like my classics. Right now I'm cruising in a 1997 Thunderbird, she's a beast and get's me where I need to go.

Well, I think that'll do for now. I'm shy but chatty, sweet but sometimes a spit fire. Any other questions just give me a shout! Salut!

Saturday Special- Cabaret, Mein Herr ( Liza Vs Rachelle)

Cabaret is one of my all time favorite beloved movies. I adore Liza and her character Sally. She's so wonderful and dazzling. I must find my Cabaret record that I bought at a thrift store, I have to get my record player from my mother's. And stereo, bunch of others. La sigh...oh Cabaret.

I am in love with that belt and I wish I got the zebra print one that I saw. Darn it, it's most likely been bought already but I think tomorrow I'll pop in and see if it's still there. It was so humid out side. The heat was not the issue but the humidity made me burn up all day and even at work. I can't wait to go to Texas and be in just heat with no humidity. Some people think I'm crazy but I just can't stand the sticky weather in Tennessee. i'm also looking forward to going to Buffalo Exchange in Dallas! Stoked beyond Stoked.

Loving You Till I Melt

Something I've been meaning to post but never felt it was the right moment till now. I really love my boyfriend.

We have something I have never really felt before. A great feeling of passion and love fills up every inch of my soul. How wonderful it is to be with you. I love you.

Girlfriend Housewife

Ever since I moved in with Nathan a year ago, jokes were being made that I was now the Girlfriend-Housewife. I contribute by buying groceries when I can, doing the dishes, cooking, and laundry. I've always have sucked at all the above. It comes in waves when I want to do the dishes, and cook. Laundry is not an issue. However, I would make the house wives of the past fuss. I know my mother does when she comes over and tells me that I need to dust or I need to vacuum. Right now I just have a very small Bissell to vacuum an 850sq ft apartment. For me that's a big space for a hand held picker upper.

After moving a few months ago to another apartment I have yet to tackle the closet and hang my cloths. It's overwhelming doing this all by myself but I have respect for the crazy women of the 50s, working their fannies off.

Two For Tuesday: Duane Eddy and CCR

Baby I'm a Fool

Darla, Picasso, and I

I went to my moms today and when I showed up she was fixing herself a garden. There has been many attempts to planting a garden in the past at old residences and I hope these one is plentiful. I helped her put up the rest of the fencing and put the old wooden fences that were in the front yard around the outer part. You know, to keep the rabbits and critters at bay. We went to Sonic to get milk shakes, the to strays that live outside the house were watching over it. She thought they were trying to get in but as much as we feed them I think they just wanted to repay her. She kind of agreed.

Where Nathan's 4-Runner sat for a few good months. hopefully to be fixed!

Necklace: the name of the store has lost me... but it was on clerance!

Notice the rust on my rear tire. It's such a funny story, I was in Auto Zone to have my engine light checked and when I was getting ready to leave my car made this horrible noise. When I was getting ready to go forward, something snapped and my car felt like it dropped on the ground. Something with the brakes broke. It had been making this horrible noise whenever I would brake. The worst grinding ever made possible. Luckily I'm friends with the nice people of Auto Zone and I was able to leave my car there, in a parking spot till my wonderful new mechanic could take it to his house.

A Day trip

Nathan and I took an adventure to Franklin yesterday to just get out of Murfreesboro. To breathe and forget about troubles at home. We went to Woodcraft to pick up a pen kit and I immediately wanted to start making pens again. A hobby I dearly miss, making pens was a great way to relax.

I then wanted to go to Goodwill and was very disappointed by the selection, I only found two things out of a thousand possible things to enjoy. I kind of wish I got the top but we went to Cool Springs Galleria and bought a bag full of Jelly Belly's instead. Which are now all gone. Sad face.

We were hungry and went to the food court. I don't really care for food courts because it's either too loud or smells really bad. However, our hunger got over the smells and even though I think Nathan didn't want to buy food at the food court this one place way calling out name. Charley's Sub's. They are a little bit pricey but a good sub to eat. I had the Chicken California sub and it was like eating a chicken salad, so good. The fries are awesome as well.

As of lately I've been wearing just these three babies. I really love Cover Girl's waterproof mascara, Maybelines light rose blush, and L'Oreal's Mineral base foundation. My face feels light and normal.

work work work

Marble Slab: Butterfinger cup, coffee and cheese cake ice cream with Twix pieces

Woof. Sundays are usually lazy and the hours drag by. However, that was not the case today, yet there were moments of slow periods. I hate how humid it gets in the mall and while your trying to stay all pretty while working. Trying not to sweet your butt off at the same time. Course cursing the humid store did keep my mind off perhaps becoming a future college drop out. It's been stressful and I have to fill out another appeal form to receive my grant. How annoying.

We could not find

Saturday Special: The Black Keys " I'll Be Your Man"

Learning about the 50 designers

As I was walking into the library, my main goal was to print something off and be on my merry way. As I was heading to the computer lab the cover art of a book caught my eye. I haven't checked anything out from the public library in years and I figured I would see what this book was about when I was done printing.

After finishing up at the computer lab I went to the bookshelf and picked up the book. 50 Fashion Designers You Should Know by Simone Werle

It made me think that people like Nini Ricci, "Coco", Main Bocher, and along with other designers who have passed away no longer have their true ideas coming out. That thought went into my mind as I was flipping through, looking at all the lovely designers and their creations. Then I came across people like Martin Margiela and Alexander McQueen, asking myself "What the hell are these model's wearing?" I know the point is to grab peoples attention with these outrageous ideas of clothing and it has to be for show but really?

My take on the fashion world differs from people who live in it. I think I'll just dip my toes in it and not venture to far down the rabbit whole. Most of the designers look like they've taken too many trips on acid and lost their minds on the sketch pad.

Chuy's, Johnny Cash, Birthday

I told Nathan on the way to Red Box that all that food I ate must be Elvis: The Later Years special. Chuy's has a Memorial Plate named after him and a side dish with a soft taco and to taco chips named Priscella. We waited for his aunt and little Ian to get there so we could order with her. I was so hungry and ate so many chip basket's with this amazing chip dip with jalapeños. ¡oh, era tan bueno!  By the time I placed my order and the manly man in a pink shirt brought me my BIG plate of food I could hardly eat. So there, Elvis sits, in my cold fridge waiting to be eaten by moi. I think I'll ask Sabrina if she wants to come over and...eat the rest of Elvis with me.

¡aclamaciones!

Two for Tuesday

From my favorite movie of all time. Almost Famous. Enjoy.

rock your heart out baby

I recently came across this beauty of a website a few days ago while looking up ideas for patterns. I've always have been in love with the rock n' roll rockabilly style. From poodle skirts to strapless dresses with flowers on them. To pomps to victory rolls, I'm all about the 40s and 50s. I'm an old soul, I crave the classic cars from the 30s to mid 70s. I guess I have my mom to thank for that, appreciate the old things that people have put more time into.

Vagabond Dandy has an amazing selection for gentlemen and ladies. Really cool pieces of artwork, music, and nice accessories. So, go eat your heart out.

on the road to recovery

Bright Star

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art--
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors--
No--yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever--or else swoon to death.

Letters to Dead People

Saturday Special

I figured I should start with a tradition and I know many do this but what the heck. For anyone who knows me I love music, like most people should. I do not think I have meet anyone who has not and if I do, then what a shame! So for anyone with willing listening ears, here is a lovely Saturday Specials for you!

a perfect evening with Norah

Photo courtesy of  Tennessee: Tune In Music City

I had such a wonderful time with my mother. It was great even up to the part were she was antsy with me driving down town. That was a little bit nerve wracking but none the less wonderful. We left for the concert early and it's a good thing too. It pays getting to Nashville 3 hours early, with parking near, getting to your seat with out getting over people, and seeing the Ryman before it fills up with people. The Ryman is just beautiful and mom was telling me of a story from about 40yrs ago she went on a date there. That was the first time she was ever at the Ryman and this was her second time. Some boy from Washington state and his uncle owned a Philip 66 gas station near my mother's uncles house. She was staying there for the summer and he asked my great uncle if he could take her out. Well they went and at the time the Ryman was the Grand Ole Opry but of course she doesn't quite remember who she saw who the boys name. She just remembers how old the building was but now she enjoys the the character.

So, yes, the opening act was not half bad either, her name is Sasha Dobson. I love her folk rock feel. It puts me in a trance. Both her and Norah put on a great performance. Oh, I wish I could go back but next time with a seat cushion. Those benches hurt my butt.

Till next time. Tennessee Ren Fair tomorrow!

melting and making it cool

You need a 1 vinyl, 1 lighter, and a beer shaped bottle.

This is would you should achieve

Flick the lighter and hold it under the vinyl. I tried to make it into a half circle so that the bottle can form it into a wave.

Course I was holding the vinyl and the bottle at the same time to mold it like so.

Ta-Da here is the finished product. It takes between 15-25 minutes. I plan on turning this into a wall clock.

I never question what to do, it tells me what to do. The photographs make themselves with my help. ~Ruth Bernhard
